DEBORAH M. SMITH, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Smith is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist with public health and medical policy experience in both academic and organizational settings. Following a successful career in academic and clinical medicine, Deborah has served as a consultant to the federal government and nonprofit organizations.

Deborah has been involved in issues related to HIV/AIDS since 1985 on domestic and international fronts. Deborah was a clinical investigator in the landmark ACTG 076 HIV perinatal transmission study and provided clinical care to HIV affected women until 2000. From 2000-2003, she was a special expert appointed in the Center for AIDS and Other Medical Consequences of Drug Abuse at the National Institute on Drug Abuse with a women’s health portfolio. She has represented professional organizations and participated in community forums on HIV/AIDS related issues and recently completed a ten-year appointment to the Committee on the Health Care of Underserved Women as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Deborah received an AB degree in sociology from Bryn Mawr College, her Doctorate of Medicine from Howard University and a MPH in Maternal and Child Health from the University of California at Berkeley.
